Finding Peace With God

In today’s world, peace and quiet isn’t always easy to find; whether it’s traffic noise, aircraft overhead or unrelenting social media, silence is in short supply. But what about peace of mind, an inner peace undisturbed by the world around us?

That sort of peace can only be found by seeking God. You see, peace isn’t found in an absence of noise, but in a person. Jesus said to His followers, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you.” 1. But notice, He wasn’t promising us a trouble-free life. In fact He was honest with us, saying, “I have told you these things so that you can have peace in me. In this world you will have troubles. But be brave! I have overcome the world!” 2.

Jesus offers His peace to all who put their trust in Him. An ancient prophecy reads: “You, Lord, give true peace to those who depend on you, because they trust you.” 3. And the reason we can trust God is because He loves us; not just all of us, but each one of us. God loves you – yes you, very much! You are very special to Him – He knows all about you, and wants you to know Him. Life isn't easy, but whether your path is rough or smooth, He offers you His strength, His comfort and His presence to help you make it through this world. That’s why we can trust Him with our cares and concerns, our todays and our tomorrows.

So, how can you know that peace for yourself?

1) TALK TO HIM
He’s waiting to hear from you.
God, I'm not sure if you're there, but if you truly love me and will accept me as I am, please reveal yourself to me.

2) BE REAL WITH HIM
Sadly, this world has turned away from its Creator, and is in turmoil as a result – just read the news! Even we ourselves cannot claim to be totally innocent. Who can say they've never had an unkind thought or have always put others first? But God wants to wipe the slate clean. He can do this for us, because Jesus dealt with this world's wrongdoing, ours included, by dying in our place upon the cross. Exchanging His perfect life for our sinful one, He paid the price to set us free.
Dear God, I know I’ve messed up, I’ve done wrong, but please forgive me and make me clean inside.

3) THANK HIM
The Bible tells us what Jesus has done:
"God has shown us how much he loves us — it was while we were still sinners that Jesus died for us!"4.
"The payment for sin is death, but the gift that God freely gives is everlasting life found in Christ Jesus our Lord."5.
Jesus, thank you for what you did for me. Thank you for your free gift of love and forgiveness, and for making it possible for me to start again. I turn my life over to you. Please fill me with your peace.
