Somewhere in the distance you hear a familiar sound; it’s the alarm! Suddenly you realise that you aren’t where you thought you were; you were asleep, but now you’re awake and the day’s responsibilities are already calling for your attention. Staying put seems infinitely desirable, but work, children, pets, deadlines all drag you from your slumbers. Shower, coffee. tea, fruit juice, toast fly past as bags are picked up and the door slams to behind you, The day has begun.
Crowded roads, buses, pavements; every man for himself! The distant hope of the mid-morning break eventually arrives – a time to sit down, collect your thoughts and ponder the morning’s dilemmas. What a way to start the day!
Why not wake a few minutes earlier to spend some time with your Creator? Invite Him into your day; thank Him for His love; ask His advice about the problems you face; ask for His help with those colleagues and family members you find difficult; ask that you might know Him better.
The Beatles once sang, “I get by with a little help from my friends.” How much more then will we “get by” after spending time with Jesus?
Way back in 1,000 BC, King David wrote:
“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”
Psalm 5:3 (NIVUK)
